Has the current pandemic knocked you all out of sync? Your daily routines are no longer the norm and you are perhaps having to juggle your work, your kids and all the other everyday tasks that need to be done under surreal circumstances. A normal grocery shopping trip takes longer, meaning more time out of your day because you have to queue up outside the supermarket, just to get essential items.
Over my last few posts, I’ve been sharing tips on how to keep your business productive during COVID-19, the last few particularly focusing on productivity.
This week I wanted to throw out there the concept of delegation. You may not be able to take the pressure off the demands of your children during this time, but there may just be something you can do to give yourself a little more space with your work. Have you thought about delegating? If you are a business owner, then you will know that there are so many tasks that need to be done to keep everything ticking along nicely. Administration, diary management, invoicing, social media, blog content, keeping your website up to date, marketing… the list goes on. However, I want to ask you a question…
Do you, yes you alone, need to be doing all of it?
Is there a task that you could perhaps delegate to someone else to help you to free up some time? It may even simply be a task that you just don’t like doing, because it’s okay to delegate those too.
Has this come as a surprise to you, that this is an option? Or, are you someone who finds it hard to delegate? Have you thought about what you could outsource, but are just not sure?
Delegating or outsourcing tasks will increase how productive you are in many ways. Not only does it lighten your load, but it also raises the opportunity to delegate tasks that might not be one of your strengths. If you find social media a struggle for your business, it may be communicated in what you post. Would it be better if someone who knows how to utilise social media effectively be an asset to your business? Perhaps you really don’t like having to filter through all your emails, just to find the one that is of relevance and requires your action. That 30 minutes spent organising your inbox could be spent teaching your kids something new. What if only the important stuff was brought to your attention and you could deal with it all in one go?
These are just a few things to think about. The main focus to this post is about creating time for yourself and your family, whilst still being productive in your business during this crisis.
